Arizona State Fair
Where do all great food inventions come from? State fairs, of course, home of the deep-fried everything. New at our fair this year is the Donut Burger, a meat patty wedged between two Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Eat this after you go on the rides. The fair runs Oct. 15-Nov. 7, closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Mrs. White's Golden Rule Cafe
You know fried chicken isn't – not exactly diet fare. Now taste it smothered in brown gravy. That's the Piping Hot Smothered Chicken at this soul-food restaurant. $11.18.

Nogales Hot Dogs
This is the granddaddy of hot dogs, wrapped in bacon and nearly collapsing under the weight of all those toppings: mayonnaise, beans, onions, tomatoes, peppers, jalapeño sauce, guacamole, cheese, mushrooms, and other stuff thrown in for good measure. $2.75.

Over Easy
A lot of hens have worked very hard to bring you the Big E's Pile-Up: 12 eggs, three-quarter-3⁄4 pound of gourmet bacon, 12 slices of cheese and hash browns. Oh, and it's all smothered in gravy. Finish in less than half an hour by yourself and it's free. So far, it's been consumed by no fewer than six people. $30.
