3D Food Printer Futuristically Prints Chocolate, Cookies

Posted in : Cookies

(added last year!)

It's officially the future: scientists are developing a 3D food printer. Cornell University's Computational Synthesis Laboratory, along with chefs David Arnold and Nils Noren of the French Culinary Institute, are working on the device, which can print "chocolates, cookies, and even domes of turkey meat." Domed is exactly how we like our turkey meat!

Anyway, the device uses edible food "inks," and they foresee issues with "allowing consumers at home to create their own custom food inks, because different materials will each behave differently." However, they do think they will be able to produce raw food inks by creating a gel out of hydrocolloids, which would expand the variety of dishes they are able to print considerably.
