Over the weekend, I took my daughters to SoHo Sweets in Homewood for ice cream cupcakes, which were part of the Sweet on a Cure fundraiser for UAB's Comprehensive Cancer Center. These huge desserts have ice cream sandwiched between two layers of cake and are topped with a generous heaping of crisp frosting.  I liked the chocolate one in particular, which had chunks of peanut butter cups in the ice cream, but the vanilla one was also delicious (since neither of my kids came close to finishing theirs, I got to sample both).  They are super-sweet though, and the sugar factor may be too intense for some palates.  The treats sell for $5 each at SoHo Sweets.

While the Sweet on a Cure event has ended, you can still enjoy the desserts from local eateries that participated.  I will also add my recommendation to the White Chocolate Blueberry Cookies from Culinard Cafe, which I tried thanks to Bob Carlton's suggestion last week.
